FCE for Schools improves pass rate in Greece

Cambridge ESOL has congratulated students and teachers throughout Greece, following strong results in the first session of the new FCE for Schools exam  taken by Greek students for the first time in May this year. The results show 71.00% of the students passed the exam with a grade C or better, compared to a pass rate of 64.4% for the May 2010 FCE exam.

FCE for Schools is a version of Cambridge ESOLs long-established FCE, the most popular of the Cambridge English exams in Greece. Set at exactly the same level as other FCE exams, it is based on the revised, friendlier format which was introduced in 2008.. Cambridge ESOLs Dionysia Ioannou explains:

These results are very encouraging and show how much effort school age students in Greece are putting into learning English. FCE for Schools includes material specifically aimed at the interests and experiences of school-aged learners.

FCE for Schools is a B2 level exam, but Cambridge ESOLs new extended certification means that it has additional benefits for candidates at the top of the ability range, with exceptional students being awarded an FCE certificate showing that they have achieved level C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference. At the same time, many students who did not achieve a grade C pass will receive a certificate showing that they have demonstrated ability at level B1.

As ever, Cambridge ESOL offers a wide range of support including support material, seminars and presentations -to the schools and students who prepare towards our examinations.  Please visit our website for further information.

Cambridge ESOL would like to wish to all its colleagues and candidates even greater success in the future.
